GLV's Total Immersion Experience philosophy encourages students to take language acquisition to the level of thinking in the target language, independent of their own native tongue. This technique involves teaching not only teaching language skills in an Mandarin-only medium classes, but also by presenting opportunities to practice these skills outside of class within the supportive environment our program offers. The T.I.E.-Chinese program balances the core study of Mandarin language and skills with the study of Chinese culture in Chinese throughout the course. |

About our School |
Gateway Language Village , founded in 1998, is located in Zhuhai, a beautiful seaside city. We have over five years of successful implementation in the Total Immersion Experience English (T.I.E.-E) concept for Chinese students from all over China . Part of the GLV theory is to provide courses of short duration which provide for language experience from morning until evening during which time the student will acquire enough Chinese Language skills to confidently communicate and travel anywhere in China. GLV is located in Zhuhai , Guangdong Province, and is situated in the Pearl River Delta Region in the subtropical southern area of China .

Zhuhai is a romantic city with blue sky, sea breezes, green hills, beautiful parks and gardens, long rivers and is located just south of The Tropic of Cancer, 23.5 degrees North latitude. Twenty years ago this city was a very small fishing village, and since then it has prospered immensely because of its national designation as one of China 's Special Economic Zones (SEZ). Zhuhai enjoys plentiful sunshine with an annual average temperature of 22 degrees Celsius or 72 degrees Fahrenheit, and average relative humidity of 79%. The seasonal damp, warm environment has created greenness everywhere with many types of flowers blooming all year round. Zhuhai's small population size, with the highest percentage of highly educated people from all parts of China , presents a rich Mandarin Chinese Language environment. There are 146 green islands scattered like pearls off the coast of Zhuhai . Nearby is Hong Kong, which is separated from Mainland China to the east, and is only a one-hour ferry ride to and from Zhuhai and Macau . Macau City is adjacent to Zhuhai and serves as another entry point for people coming to Mainland China . Over 1,000 foreigners reside in Zhuhai and there are many joint venture companies that have invested here. |

Why study at our school and in Zhuhai ? |
Our school will teach you the national standard language of China , which in English is called Mandarin and in Chinese, Putonghua. You may be wondering why not learn Cantonese instead, since we are located in south China in Guangdong ( Canton ) Province? The answer is simple. Although Cantonese is the widely spoken dialect in a few of the southern provinces of China , including Hong Kong , every native Cantonese speaker is required to learn and speak the Putonghua language. It is the standard spoken language of China , and since Hong Kong and Macau were ceded from England and Portugal respectively, China has made it a requirement for all citizens to use Mandarin as the standard language, especially in the business sector.
